Bailiff welcomes global politicians
Wednesday 23rd April 2008, 12:00AM BST.
SENIOR politicians from around the world have been welcomed to the Island for a Commonwealth Parliamentary Association event by the Bailiff, Sir Philip Bailhache.
Speaking in the States Chamber yesterday morning, Sir Philip told the 30 delegates from Africa, Australia, Canada and the Caribbean that he was honoured to welcome them to the Island.
And he used his speech to call for freedom for the Zimbabwean people, whose disputed election results continues to cause violence in the country, and for her neighbours to help the country return to the Commonwealth.
The delegates are in Jersey for the CPA’s mid-year meeting of the International Executive Committee, which plans future conferences and seminars at political level.
