England beat Portugal 2-1

Thursday 24th April 2008, 12:00AM BST.

GROUP A in the Blackhorse Offshore Local European Championship will be decided in the final game next Tuesday at St Brelade.

England defeated holders Portugal 2-1 at the same venue last night to joint Portugal on three points so now all three teams can still qualify for the final, depending on the outcome of Tuesday’s game between Jersey and England.

Tournament organiser Iain Mackenzie said: ‘England’s win last night has left the group finely balanced. Jersey will go through if they win by two clear goals but if it’s a one-goal Jersey win then Portugal will progress on goals scored because their goal-differences will be the same. England will qualify if they avoid defeat.’
