Murray shines in win over Midlands Select

LEONIS ABC lightweight Ben Murray put in a sparkling performance to seal his club’s 7-5 victory over a Midlands Select at the Radisson SAS Hotel on Saturday.

The boxing was of a high standard – and high octane excitement – all night as the visitors, some of the best to travel to the Island for many a year, pushed the local boys long and hard.

But with the Midlands’ Nasser Rafiq needing victory to tie the match in the final encounter, club captain Murray produced a stunning performance, unveiling his full range of punching. Switching hitting styles at will, the Jersey boxer dominated and fully deserved the 300-strong crowd chanting his name as his varied and high velocity attacks ran him well ahead on all three judges’ cards.
