Jersey ready for the big one!

Friday 25th April 2008, 12:00AM BST.

JERSEY RFC face their biggest game, ever, in the history of their club, dating back to 1876, when they take on Staines at St Peter today in the play-off for promotion to London I.

Already, after two years of finishing third in London South II, by finishing second this season, Barry George’s boys have made living history – the club has never achieved such status or flown so high before.

Indeed, if they had not ‘lost’ two points mid-season, for fielding an unregistered player early in the season, which cost them two points to the benefit of league leaders Hayward’s Heath, who have been promoted automatically, they would not have to play this extra game. Indeed, they have the best playing record of all the teams in London South and North II.

Urge

However, that is all in the past. For JRFC chairman Chris Scott, for Director of rugby Dai Burton and for coach Barry George, all that matters now is today’s game against North II’s runners-up, Staines.
