Pressure on minister to explain rift between Customs and police

HOME Affairs Minister Wendy Kinnard is coming under fierce pressure to explain the breakdown in relations between the States police and Customs and Immigration.

The Senator is being called to a Scrutiny panel hearing and will be questioned in the States about the rift, which has resulted in a huge drop in drug seizures.

Senator Kinnard will be questioned today by the Education and Home Affairs Scrutiny panel about the lack of resources for Customs and Immigration and the impact this is having on staff.

Sufficient resources?

Next week in the States the minister is going to be asked to explain what is being done to restore relations between police and Customs following the criminal investigation into their officers.
