Refuse development at Plemont’

THE Environment Minister must refuse to allow development on the Plemont headland to correct the errors of the past, say heritage campaigners.

They have written to Senator Freddie Cohen in advance of a public hearing on Friday at which he will decide whether to allow developers to build 36 homes on the former holiday village site.

The meeting comes after years of wrangling over the Plemont site and a long campaign by politicians, campaigners and members of the public to stop it being redeveloped.

The States approved a proposition in 2006 lodged by the Constable of St Ouen Ken Vibert calling for the site to be retained as an open space. The National Trust for Jersey have tried to encourage donations to enable them to buy the site from developers.
