THE Battle of Flowers and the Opera House are likely to be exempt from GST thanks to a change in the law.
Comptroller of Income Tax Malcolm Campbell has signed two new GST directives to bring a new definition of a charity and non-profitmaking organisation into immediate effect, adding for the first time a ‘cultural’ element.
GST deputy director Robert Fox was this morning unable to confirm specific organisations which would benefit from the change. However, he did say: ‘Galleries and theatres will definitely benefit from it, and it will also definitely be of benefit to any organisation which organises a mobile floral display for the public.’
