Ministers urged not to spend GST funds
Monday 28th April 2008, 12:00AM BST.
THE attitude of Ministers to spending is like ‘a bunch of drunks with the keys to the wine cellar’ according to the ‘Seven Angry Men’ pressure group, who are kick-starting their campaign to reduce spending in advance of this year’s elections.
The group, who organised a 2,000-strong protest against tax increases outside the States Chamber on Budget day in 2003, say that the revenue from the three per cent Goods and Services Tax due to be levied in a fortnight should be locked away and not spent by ministers on their ‘pet projects’.
They have also decried the ‘cynical tactics’ of ministers by making savings through cutting cheap, popular services like school milk and Christmas lights, while at the same time ‘lavishing money’ on consultants, senior civil servants and growing services.
