GST could push a pint to nearly £3
Wednesday 30th April 2008, 12:00AM BST.
THE price of a pint could increase to almost £3 when GST is enforced next week.
Customers are already staying away from pubs and clubs, and there is concern that many more will remain drinking at home when the three per cent sales tax comes in.
The president of the Jersey Nightclub Association says that GST will have a damaging effect on the already declining industry.
Spencer Bourne, managing director of Palladium Leisure which owns B Bar, Buddah Bar, Mint and Platinum nightclub, said: ‘Alcohol is too expensive in Jersey. We are already seeing a steady decline in customers since the smoking ban came in. People are deciding to drink at home instead. GST is going to have a detrimental effect on business.’
