Jersey back in the mix
Thursday 1st May 2008, 12:00AM BST.
JERSEY’S under-15 schoolboys have been reinstated into the Inter-Association knock-out football competition.
Plymouth, who defeated Jersey 3-0 in February, and Blackheath have both been removed from the competition by the English Schools Football Association, following the abandonment of their semi-final when players fought with spectators just a few minutes from the end of extra time with Plymouth leading 2-1. Two players were also sent off in the match.
The ousting of Plymouth and Blackheath means Jersey will now host Brighton for a place in the final against Liverpool – at Everton FC’s Goodison Park.
Jersey assistant manager and coach Craig Northedge said: ‘Obviously we’re delighted by the decision and it’s great to see that the ESFA will not stand for bad behaviour by eliminating both teams from the competition.
