Super strike seals Poland victory
Thursday 1st May 2008, 12:00AM BST.
SUBSTITUTE Gienek Zawierucha scored the goal of the Black Horse Local European Championship tournament last night as Poland defeated Ireland 3-2 at La Hague Manor.
After the ball came in from the left, Zawierucha volleyed it home into a far top corner from the corner of the right-hand side of the penalty area.
‘It was stunning finish and I really don’t think he’d ever do that again,’ said Poland manager Jaroslaw Mlonka.
‘We played well. It was our first win in the tournament’s history and we achieved it because goalkeeper Krzysek Czyrny made some excellent saves – especially in the last ten minutes.’
Steve Brady scored both Irish goals after good link up play.
