Big weekend for volleyball at the Fort

Saturday 3rd May 2008, 12:00AM BST.

TWENTY-ONE volleyball teams from the UK, France and the Channel Islands are taking part in the Insurance Corporation Jersey Open at Fort Regent today and tomorrow.

Last year’s mixed winners, Ken Dodd’s Dad’s Dog’s Dead, are returning, as are the winners of the men’s tournaments, RAF Harriers, and the runners-up, St Malo.

HLB Jackson Fox Jersey will be looking to repeat last year’s success, when they won the Jersey Open, but they face stiff competition from several strong teams, including Savills, the winners of Guernsey’s Ladies League, and Ashcombe, who are regular competitors and are always strong.

There was a vin d’honneur at the Merton Hotel last night and the event closes with a formal presentation dinner tomorrow.

Ladies: Ashcombe, Hawks, HLB Jackson Fox Jersey, HLB Jackson Fox Foxes, Melon Bits, Nashcopy, Reading Angels, Savills and UK Police.

Men: Cornwall College, RAF Harriers, HLB Jackson Fox Jersey, Montana Red Dogs, Plymouth, St Malo, Surrey Fire.

Mixed: HLB Jackson Fox Jersey, Epsom Eagles, Ashcombe, Ken Dodd’s Dad’s Dog’s Dead and Cannon.
