Muratti Vase triumph for Jersey after last-gasp effort
Tuesday 6th May 2008, 12:00AM BST.
JERSEY retained the Cimandis Muratti Vase following a 4-2 penalty shoot-out victory against Guernsey yesterday for the second year running.
At Springfield the hosts were starring a 1-0 defeat in the face when two incidents in a three-minute spell five minutes from the end swung the match their way.
Goalkeeper Jimmy Styles made a fantastic save to deny Guernsey striker Ross Allen, and a minute into time added for stoppages junior midfielder Jack Boyle equalised for Jersey with an excellent strike across goal from the edge of the penalty area.
Both sides squandered opportunities to claim the match in extra-time before Jersey went on to win the shoot-out, with substitute Liam Walshe scoring the decisive kick.
