Classic case of organic success
Thursday 8th May 2008, 8:40AM BST.
THE business of independent dairy farmers in St Peter has earned organic status following a two-year conversion period for their land.
Classic Herd, owned by Darren and Julia Quénault, has been awarded the certificate by UK organisation Organic Farmers and Growers Ltd and all the farm’s milk, cheese, cream and natural yoghurt will now carry an organic label.
The couple have spent two years converting their 350 vergées of land and their herd of 60 Jersey cows and have had to provide details of their farming methods and feed products used over the last two years to achieve organic status.
Mrs Quénault said: ‘We are delighted to have finally been certified by the OFG and to be able to use their logo on our diary products.’
