THE Occupation years were brought to life in the People’s Park.

Islanders and tourists alike flocked to the park following the annual service in Liberation Square, to enjoy street theatre, music and war-time tales.

And with no sign of the forecast rain, glorious sunshine helped to make the ‘living history’ event a huge success.

As well as having the chance to sample bean crock, nettle tea and St Helier cider, the hundreds who gathered enjoyed performances from the Jersey Big Band and the Musical Originals Choir. And local dance teacher Christophe Chateau was also on hand to teach willing volunteers the art of Lindyhop dancing.

The event for the 63rd anniversary of the Island’s liberation was funded by Economic Development, with the ‘living history’ element organised by the Jersey Arts Centre. This included talks from Occupation survivors and performances from eight young Islanders, including Miss Battle Vicky Trehorel.
