Million-pound fiasco

JERSEY’S emergency services were not consulted before a £1 million redesign of a road system that will force their vehicles to mount the pavement at Bel Royal, it has been revealed.

The States Fire and Rescue Service spotted the potential problems after the work started and arranged an emergency meeting with the Transport department.

Engineers agreed to lower and strengthen a ten-metre stretch of kerb to make it easier for emergency vehicles to pass, but after the States sitting yesterday, the Ambulance Service said that these measures were unlikely to be a long-term solution.

This is one of the many reasons why we are having to pay GST. Not only do the States ever seem to properly think an idea through properly, but do we really need to waste money on these projects in the first place, ansd then have to spend more on changing whatever cockup they have made first time around.

Frankly, this is typical of our States Government both past and present. It is hardly surprising that costs of running this Island cannot be controlled. It is nothing short of either total incompetence or being too arrogant to speak with the Services (or people) who know better than them.
