The Jersey branch of GMB – a 120-year-old national union with more than 800,000 members in the UK – was formed on Tuesday night, with workers from JT, the JEC, Servisair, G4S and Aviance the first to join.

JT assistant technician Tim Langlois, who was elected president of the branch, said that the local union would grow and provide a public campaigning voice for members.

He added that the union would be run by Jersey members but could rely on the knowledge and experience that GMB had with new legislation governing employment and discrimination.
