The Island of Fear

UNLIKE States Members we live in the real world. They should try it some time. Then they might, just might, appreciate what GST means to OAPs and low income earners of this Island.
Many prices went up shortly before GST was made official. Do they know how many shops we have to go in to find the cheapest we can possibly get? This morning I went to a shop in Gloucester Street for a litre of milk and was charged £1.01. You guessed right – I refused to pay and had to go elsewhere who charged 97p and then I found out I could have got one for 94p if I had looked further. What a carry-on.
What is next on the States agenda for the poor of the Island? It’s getting to the stage that we old age pensioners are worried what the States are going to hit us with next. It’s a pity they don’t know, and don’t want to know, how the hell we cope. Anyway, we all know if we had the salaries they get we would be cock-a- hoop.
How long before the GST goes up? How long before the OAP bus passes have restrictions? It seems to be the theme of the States of Jersey to target us. As for the forms we have to fill in, half of them you can’t understand.
This used to be the Island of Jersey. To many it’s now the Island of Fear.
These are also the thoughts of so very many people of Jersey who dare not say anything. So when you vote, please do it wisely and remember, we can change the system!
