I JUST cannot believe that Senator Philip Ozouf wants to spend £400,000 of taxpayers’ money to set up agencies in India and China above all places to further the reputation of the finance industry.
While there is no harm in looking for new business to maintain the high standard of our services, hospitals, education, health care and so on, I wonder whether Senator Ozouf has taken the human rights records of both these countries into consideration before deciding to do business with them.
He claims that India and China will become major players in finance and commerce in the near future, but personally I think that these two countries are too volatile to have as business partners. Only a couple of years ago the Chinese government announced that it was to slow down its rapidly growing economy to help the poor farmers who had become poorer as a result of China’s industries expanding.
India has not fared much better in the treatment of its poor because most of its socialist policies have failed to raise their standard of living.
I can’t see Senator Ozouf’s logic regarding his forecast for these two volatile countries. India has an uneasy peace with Pakistan and China is trying to buy up all the world’s raw materials in order to monopolise world trade.
Look for new business by all means, Senator, but not with China and India. The risk is too high.
