GST hits imports

BUSINESSES are potentially losing thousands of pounds because administering GST at the ports is causing huge delays.
Customs officers are working into the early hours because GST has caused a backlog of essential imports for Islanders at the Airport and the Harbour.
Officers are trying to get to grips with the new system, which has been described by some traders as ‘a real nightmare’. Large numbers of packages and parcels are being detained and delayed because shipping companies and couriers are reportedly not putting the correct details on consignments.
They are not containing the basic details such as the address, value or description of the goods.
Businesses, taxi drivers and the public have reported delays in receiving their supplies.

Terry Le Sueur I am afraid will be remembered for all the wrong reasons.The effects of GST are going to be hugely damaging and inflationary to the local economy.If the States simply controlled their own expenditure this could all have been avoided.

Why am I surprised. Yet again our ministers prove that they are incapable of managing their way out of a wet paper bag. Someone should point out that a bit of pre planning goes a long way to avoiding fiasos such as this. Jersey once a lovely place to live and work in is rapidly going to the dogs.

Terry le Sueur has to go. GST is not only unnecessary, he made it up as he went along – a back-of-a-fag-packet creation. The public are now paying for this man’s arrogance.
