Jersey top of the isles
Monday 19th May 2008, 2:58PM BST.
JERSEY beat both the Isle of Man and the Isle of Wight to win the inaugural Appleby Women’s Football Islands Challenge at the weekend, lifting the trophy after a 7-6 penalty shoot-out against the IoW yesterday.
Jersey beat the Isle of Man 3-2 on Saturday and led Isle of Wight 2-0 before being hauled back to 2-2 yesterday.
Delighted Jersey manager Tony Hoyland said: ‘It’s an excellent result for Jersey against teams who did well at the Island Games; we just now need to work on protecting a lead.
‘This justifies the amount of work the players put into training and the effort they’ve made over the last two days and shows people how good the team really are.
