Incinerator delay ‘has cost £46m’

0334183_cropped.jpgYEARS of delays in agreeing on a suitable replacement for the Bellozanne incinerator have wasted £46 million of taxpayers’ money, the Transport Minister said today.

Deputy Guy de Faye made the damning comments this morning as he unveiled details of the new energy-from-waste plant for which he will seeking States backing in July and announced a new recycling target for the Island.

The minister wants to build a £106.31 million plant south of the power station at La Collette, which could generate seven per cent of the Island’s electricity.

The £106 million would include the decommissioning of the ageing Bellozanne incinerator. If Deputy de Faye’s preferred option is approved, he said that it would effectively mean Islanders having to spend much more money, time and energy recycling.

Once again we have Transport Minister De Faye blowing his trumpet around the island and sending everyone into a state of panic with his 46 million loss claim on the incinerator. What an appropriate time he chose to change the subject away from the most recent rediculous roadworks scenario along Victoria Avenue and the fact that residents should be consulted is always extremely low on his agenda and even when they are consulted they are not listened to. He really is quite clever at covering his own back and ensuring the blame never lies on his shoulders. La Collette is not the right site for the incinerator and measures should have been taken a long time ago to maintain Bellozane.
