World stars on cue in Jersey
Tuesday 20th May 2008, 3:00PM BST.
SOME of the world’s top billiards players compete in the final of the English Open Billiards Series starting at the First Tower Institute on Friday.
The 35 players who will start in the competition at 10.30 am include the No 5 women’s player Tina Owen-Sevilton.
The last 16 then play in the knock-out stages on Saturday before the quarter-finals and semi-finals on Sunday, with the finals of the plate and main event beginning at 4pm.
While Jersey will be represented by established players like Guy Heys, former Island Billiards champion and a regular on the EOBS circuit, and up-and-coming players like Joe Stewart (pictured), last year’s junior Island billiards champion, they will be joined by seasoned internationals including India’s Geete Sethi, seven times world professional billiards champion and Martin Goodall, England’s top amateur player.
As for Tina Owen-Sevilton, earlier this year she reached the semi-finals of the women’s world billiards championships with a highest break of 62, while she has a highest break in snooker of 75.
