Jersey aim to move up a level

JERSEY’s Jeux des Iles table tennis team are aiming for promotion in Guadeloupe.
The sport, one of seven that Island teams are competing in over the week, takes place in the capital, Basse-Terre, over four days with three players from Jersey competing at the Palais des Sports de Basse Terre.
Jersey’s main aim is to move up from Division II into Division I and while they are without top junior, Chris Band, two players take the experience of Corsica to Guadeloupe – Luke Walker and Scott Cassin. They will be joined by Max Tupper who makes his Jeux des Iles debut.
‘We need to be looking to win that division and get into the higher division for next year,’ said coach Craig Gascoyne. ‘That is our target.
‘Unfortunately Josh Band has not been selected, when the committee picked the team he had a few injuries, and they decided against picking him this time, giving the fourth player a chance because he is also up to standard.
‘This is definitely a great level for these players to be involved in and we will go into this prepared and able to deal with the heat and hydration to ensure we can perform at our best.’
