Mother and child critical after fire
Wednesday 21st May 2008, 3:00PM BST.
A MOTHER and her young daughter were fighting for their lives this morning after a fire which broke out at their house at First Tower.
Firefighters found the woman and her three-year-old daughter unconscious in smoke-filled rooms at the property on Mont Cochon and both were resuscitated at the scene.
The girl was described as being in a critical condition and was due to be flown to Southampton Hospital for specialist treatment.
Her 33-year-old mother, who was also in a critical condition, was being treated in the intensive care unit at the Hospital.
A spokeswoman for the Fire and Rescue Service said the alarm was raised by the mother at just after 4 am. Two full-time engines and a part-time appliance from St Helier were sent to the scene and four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus went into the property.
