Half ABN Amro staff may go

STAFF at ABN Amro bank in Jersey were yesterday told that around half of the workforce could be made redundant over the next few months.
Around 65 people are currently employed at the Jersey branch, which became part of the Fortis group at the end of last year.
Belgian-based Fortis has had a sizeable operation in Guernsey for some years.
Patrick Crowley, head of private banking in Jersey, said the jobs that would be affected were mainly operations and support functions. He said that it was not a case of Jersey jobs being lost to Guernsey.
