CLAIMS that police allowed Home Affairs Minister Wendy Kinnard to mislead the States and Islanders about the first ‘bone fragment’ found at Haut de la Garenne should be reviewed independently, says the assistant minister in charge of child protection.

Senator Jim Perchard says that the review should be carried out by someone outside the States of Jersey Police and has urged Chief Minister Frank Walker to take action.

Senator Walker says the request will be considered at a meeting with ministers later today, but says that whatever happens, nothing will be done to undermine the investigation.

Senator Perchard, the Assistant Health and Social Services Minister, says that when Senator Kinnard told the States at the end of April that the fragment was part of the remains of a child – a claim repeated by Police Chief Graham Power a week later – officers already knew that UK scientists thought the fragment was not bone.
