Cricketing cloud has a silver lining for Jersey
Thursday 29th May 2008, 2:59PM BST.
ALTHOUGH yesterday’s rain wiped out the ICC World Cricket League programme, and denied Jersey their much anticipated clash with Afghanistan, the decision not to play that fixture today at least assures the hosts of a place in tomorrow’s Division V semi-finals.
Jersey, the Group B winners, will now face the losers of today’s Group A decider, between USA and Nepal, at the FB Fields tomorrow.
The competition’s technical committee came to the decision in the interests of fairness as replaying all the Group B matches would have left Singapore, who still have an outside chance of making second spot and thus qualifying for the semis, having played a game less than their rivals. So the only Group B match taking place today is the Singapore v Japan match that was abandoned on Monday.
All the other Group B teams scheduled to play yesterday receive one point each for a no result.
