French blockade threat to St Malo sailings
Thursday 29th May 2008, 2:56PM BST.
THE travel plans of hundreds of Islanders could be disrupted this weekend as French fishermen are ready to step up blockades of ports across the country.
St Malo is among the ports already being blockaded by protestors angry at rocketing fuel prices.
Trawlers were floating in the narrow access area to the docks of the commercial port this morning to block entry. However, at present the blockade is limited to freight vessels only and passenger sailings are continuing as normal.
But it is believed that it is only matter of time before the protestors step up their action to include car ferries from Jersey and England.
