Jersey people should be first on new equity scheme
Thursday 29th May 2008, 2:55PM BST.
From Teresa Guy.
I WOULD like to suggest to our Housing Minister that those who hold the discriminatory stamp in their passports should be first on the list to be considered for the new shared equity scheme.
Perhaps this could be the compensation due to them and their families because they are disciminated against for merely being born and bred in the Island.
They should have the right to purchase affordable accommodation because their parents and grandparents have contributed to the Island’s eonomy.
In an Island that is constantly building homes which can be purchased by any J-cat who has just set foot in Jersey, is this really too much to ask?

I find it strange when native Jersey people complain about not being able to work throughout the EU. Unlike the UK we maintain restrictive housing rules for EU nationals, we don’t pay £40 a week per household to subsidise the common agricultural policy nor have we given up exclusive fishing rights in our territorial waters (as the UK had to as a condition of joining the EU). Why do you think we should be able to benefit from the attractive parts of the single market when we aren’t willing to sign up for the less palatable bits that go with joining the EU?
