Fifth title for Le Chevalier
Monday 2nd June 2008, 2:58PM BST.
FORMER professional Paul Le Chevalier was crowned HSBC Private Bank Jersey Amateur Golf champion for the fifth time yesterday.
Le Chevalier, who first won the title as a 17-year-old, defeated 16-year-old Royal Jersey and Island team-mate Sam Crenan 2 and 1 in a very good match to equal Trevor Gray’s record of five Championship wins.
Le Chevalier said: ‘I had some tough knock-out rounds defeating George Kean 4 and 3 and then Robbie Messervy and Gavin O’Neill both 2 and 1.
‘Robbie is always had to put away and the game with Gavin was nip-and-tuck throughout. The final was close all the way, too; Sam played really well and I’ve no doubt one day he will be Island champion.’
