‘A ‘victory for common sense’ as the States overturn minister’s drains ruling

00565365_cropped.jpgNEIGHBOURS on a Jersey estate have hailed the States’ decision to overturn a controversial policy change to allow developers to dig up Islanders’ land without their consent as ‘a victory for common sense’.

Transport Minister Guy de Faye wanted to change the Drainage (Jersey) Law to enable developers to dig up gardens and driveways to lay drains – even if residents did not want them.

But yesterday States Members voiced their concerns over the plans and voted against the policy change by a majority of 40–5.

Six residents from the Mont Arthur estate, who would have been the first to be affected by the policy change, said that they were delighted that the decision has now been scrapped.

Good to see that there is common sense coming back into fashion albeit slowly.
