judo-colour_cropped.jpgTHE Jersey Judo Association are hopeful of taking a team of ten or 11 competitors to the NatWest Island Games in Aland next summer.

Aland, who staged the 1991 Games, are hosting the XIII Games and judo is one of the 15 sports they have included.

Judo returned to the Games programme last summer in Rhodes while Jersey’s last participation was back in 1995 in Gibraltar.

JJA Island Games delegate André Blaby won two medals in Gibraltar and he is looking forward to competing again. The 37-year-old local quarry company office manager said: ‘I returned to judo last October having had a lay-off because of family commitments and to play a bit of rugby; I’ve come back to have some competition again and to lose some weight and get fit.’
