Minister’s arrogance will deny us justice

From Graham Prouse.
TRANSPORT Minister de Faye’s conduct continues to be arrogant, ignoring his senior officers’ professional advice.

To authorise developers to lay sewers in private land against owners’ wishes, denies Islanders’ human rights 56 years after they were enshrined in the convention.

My own St Clement home was structurally damaged during sewerage works in my private land 39 years ago. The site foreman was warned that my house was vulnerable, being only three feet away from the eight-feet deep trench, but he ignored my plea and negligently caused subsidence cracks in my walls and ceilings.

My claim to the then States Sewerage Board was bounced off to the contractor and thence to the contractor’s insurer who had a vested interest in rejecting it. Furthermore, due to the States Greffier’s maladministration, I was not informed that Jersey limited claims to three years (six years in the UK) and my appeal to the tribunal was turned down when it ignored its own precedent.

So, be warned that Deputy de Faye’s incompetence and arrogance will assuredly deny justice unless he is stopped.
