The church building, between St Ouen’s Bay and the hills beyond, is 140 years old and was completely gutted for the work. Pews have been replaced by chairs and a new carpet, underfloor heating and lighting have been installed.

Two years ago the exterior of the building was renovated, including repainting and replacement of the gutters.

Former St Brelade Constable Enid Quénault, who has been involved in the project to refurbish the church, said there would be two events this weekend.

‘We are having a reopening this weekend and having a “strawberries and cream tea” at 4 pm on Saturday, followed by a service led by the Rev Billy Slatter from 5.30 pm,’ she said. ‘We are reopening this week, but we’ve actually already started using the church.

‘The work was paid for by donations – we did very well and we are very grateful to everybody who gave. It looks very nice.’
