Bel Royal still a problem, say emergency services
Saturday 7th June 2008, 9:58AM BST.
THE emergency services have warned that they will still face delays at the controversial road system at Bel Royal – just days after the Transport Minister claimed that the problems had been resolved.
The Ambulance and Fire and Rescue Services said that even though Transport had made a number of alterations to the lay-out after concerns were raised, they would still face problems during the rush-hour.
They spoke out just days after Deputy Guy de Faye told the States that he had received reports that the emergency services were now happy with the alterations.
Problems arose last month after Transport began redesigning the road without consulting the emergency services – even though the changes would force their vehicles to mount the kerb. Work was halted and a number of adjustments were made, including lowering and strengthening a stretch of kerb to allow vehicles to pass more easily.

I’m one of many drivers that uses Bel Royal road every day and my point of view is that the new alteration to the road is gone from good(before) to bad(present),i agree 100% with the emergencie services that this new alteration is no good to them and why?Easy answer;i also ride a motorbike and since they have changed the road i find it much more difficult to overtake if needed…so imagine one motorbike to a fire engine size…what do u think? Will us,every day users of Bel Royal get any cover if damaging the car for going over the kerbs to give way to emergencie services?I dont think so…so at the moment the new alteration was a completly mistake and big one…but the problem of this island is that politicians they dont care about the point of view or opinions of the public they simple decide and go for it…its very wrong…

A big round of applause to the puffin handler and co for a fine example of just how incompetent an entire department can be.
Did not one of these highly paid, shiny arsed pen pushers think at any point that this may cause a problem during the planning stage?
