Waterfront plans facing a States backlash
Monday 9th June 2008, 2:59PM BST.
MOVES to reverse Thursday’s decision to approve the Waterfront development are being discussed by States Members.
A rescindment motion, which would overturn the decision, and the removal of States Waterfront Enterprise Board directors are among the moves being discussed by Members angry about the course of the debate.
Over the weekend various States Members have been talking about last week’s States sitting, during which the existence of an $800 million lawsuit against developers Harcourt was denied by Chief Minister Frank Walker but subsequently confirmed after the motion was passed by 37 votes to five.
After the debate, documents were also circulated by WEB which seemed to raise a note of caution over Harcourt’s ability to handle the project. Deputy Gerard Baudains, who first raised the issue of the lawsuit, said that Members had been talking over the weekend about what steps to take.

I hope Freddie keeps to his word and resigns if it doesn’t go through.
I doubt he will…

I hope that not only fallible Freddie, but also fallacious Frank will also do the decent thing! Anyway, come the elections later in the year….. INSTANT KARMA!!!

The states are not to be trusted. It is very questionable that Frank Walker did not know of the lawsuit, and there MUST be some resignations. It is ludicrous to contemplate the whole project as it stands. How is a grid system of offices going to connect the waterfront to the town. Not only are islanders losing open space, we are giving away prime waterfront land for 150 years! The finance industry is smothering the Jersey we know – by stealth.

Bit by bit the true colours of the regime we live under is being slowly dismantled. The Truth will prevail even if it has taken decades to achieve. The few honest hard working states members could well saves us all from sure dictatorship. Not even a rally against certain new laws stopped this progressing. We all need to wake up and come out of own little worlds to really smell the coffee. None of the known members of the states will get my vote this year.

That’s a good comment Cris the fact that this will be swept under the carpet and Frank and co will bamboozle the rest of the poor lambs that we call our politicians with.[ I did not know I am only the head of the states for goodness sake it was a bigger boy done it and he has run away ]I only hope the poor civil servant who will be taken up before the head will be given a good pension for his trouble

Re: Harcourts law suit
Senator Perchard stated on record to the states assembly … “the claims are completely false. They are a reputable company and I urge the states to ignore the slight placed on them by Depity Baudains. We have at WEB taken these rumours seriously and we have doubled-checked and got PwC to do checks”

Dear Frank,
I request that you immediately arrange for an INDERPENDANT investigation be held into my claim that either the States of Jersey Chief of Police or his Deputy knowingly misinformed me…
….I consider it unacceptable that the Police should make wild unsubstantiated claims and peddle untruths in an effort to deceive the people of Jersey and their elected representatives.
I trust that you will be arranging that an investigation be held immediately. An investigation which I confidently predict will prove that a senior officer from the States of Jersey Police knowing deceived me and the people of Jersey and I request that appropriate action be taken thereafter.
Best

Senator James L Perchard
Question:
So, Jim, regarding the Harcourt case who is it that’s …. ”peddling untruths in an effort to deceive the people of Jersey and their elected representatives” …………..eh Jim?

Well Frank this is another fine mess you’ve gotten us into – but hey states members don’t lie they just bend the truth!!!

Senator Jim Perchard must be living in cloud cookoo land after reading Elaine Byrne’s piece in the paper last night, with the closing comment ” We did not give any misleading information to the States ” .
If his comments over Harcourt in the States were not misleading, i do not know what is. It shows the sort of politicians we have nowadays. Not prepared or unwilling to do the research, nor tell the truth. This is why they should all resign, and a DEMORCRATIC General Election called ASAP. The council of ministers are not fit for purpose.

It isn’t as if it is a big secret that Harcourt are being sued by GSG Development for $800 million for breach of contract.
GSG have said in relation to Harcourt.
“Since last fall, they promised to fulfill their partnership and not done so, paying in fits and starts, paying some people and not others,” GSG Development managing partner Kenneth Smith said. “We have tried to hold (Sullivan Square) together based on those promises.”

What so few at the States seem to realize, is that in the age of the web the people cannot so easily be duped. Who are these dinosaurs? The schools ahve got to start teaching more about taking part in democracy, people ahev got to start VOTING!
