New beach cricket league at St Brelade
Tuesday 10th June 2008, 3:00PM BST.
THERE was some extra colour to St Brelade’s Beach last night as the Tetley Bitter Oyster Box Beach Cricket League got under way.
It proved to be a thrilling start with Victor Hugo beating Oyster Box by one run.
‘It was great to play, the weather couldn’t have been better and everyone thought it was absolutely fantastic,’ said Oyster Box player, and director of Jersey Pottery, Jonathan Jones.
‘I think it’s the first beach cricket league in the British Isles and it’s very much based on the Australian beach game but there were no problems with the rules, it worked well and everyone seemed happy.’
