Heavyweight fund-raisers

ENGLAND and Leicester World Cup winning forward Martin Corry hosted a breakfast at the Jersey Rugby Club this morning as part of the continued partnership between the Tigers Rugby Club and Jersey RFC.
The 34-year-old, who has been a member of the England squad for the past three World Cups and first captained his country against Italy in 2005, was in the Island to promote a gala fund-raising event at the Hotel de France on Wednesday 20 August when the guests will include England coach Martin Johnson, Welsh international Robert Jones, Irish international Keith Wood, Scotland’s Gregor Townsend and French international Thomas Castaignede.
The event coincides with the Leicester Tigers Community courses, sponsored by Ashburton, which will see 130 under-15 Island rugby players given the chance to enjoy top-quality rugby coaching in a professional environment for the third time in as many years this August at St Peter.
For Corry, however, whose charities include the CLIC Sargent Cancer Care for Children (Channel Islands), this was his first visit to the Island and a welcome relief from a Tigers’ training routine which begins again on 30 June.
