Surf’s up – time to bring a vision to life

JUST over a year ago hotelier David Seymour took me to one side and outlined a revolutionary plan he had of rebuilding part of St Ouen’s Bay

His vision for the bay, then and now, was and is remarkable. And while David might be a millionaire hotelier, he is also a member of a surfing family who want St Ouen to be a surfing paradise, despite all the regulations that the States might throw at him.

To my mind he is one of the good guys, someone who doesn’t want to invest in St Ouen’s Bay purely to make money, and a year on I can see him still, poring over the plans and explaining them to me, not as a property developer but as a guy who simply wants to do the best for the bay because he likes surfing.

I do hope his dreams come to fruition. St Ouen should be treated with all the respect and affection it deserves.

And if David’s legacy to the Island is a state-of-the-art surfing paradise, that wouldn’t be such a bad epitaph for someone who, in the nicest way possible, is purely and simply a dedicated surf nut.
