Even the most pessimistic predictions

From Sharon Cox.
NEARLY 20 years ago I was involved in a pressure group called Save Our Shoreline. We lobbied States Members in an attempt to prevent what we considered to be the ruination of our shoreline at La Collette and to the west of the Albert Pier.
Even the most pessimistic predictions of that time couldn’t have foreseen the mess that is now our Waterfront.
To make the best of what we now have, would it not make sense to keep the shops and offices in the ‘old town’ and develop the Waterfront with mixed price housing, to include gardens, garages and open spaces? This would hopefully encourage those working in town to live on the Waterfront and walk to work.
Surely people deserve to reap the benefits of being by the seafront, having the views and enjoying a nice environment in which to live.
The present proposals, however well thought out, have one fundamental flaw, which is the need for maximum profit.
Greed has taken over, and our elected States Members have lost sight of the special place that was Jersey.
