Anthony Cooke is the managing director of Hampshire Water plc and an economist by training. Mary Curtis has extensive experience in personnel work and now runs her own consultancy in the Island. Both were appointed during the company’s annual general meeting last week.

Jersey Water chairman David Norman said that Mr Cooke was ‘one of the leading lights’ in the UK water industry and as such would bring a valuable outside view. He said that the appointment of Mrs Curtis marked ‘quite a change’, as she is the first woman to be appointed to the board in its 126-year history.

Mr Norman also thanked Richard Pirouet, who has stood down after ten years on the board. During his period of office Mr Pirouet has chaired the pension fund committee and will be continuing to carry out that duty.
