Spending back on track

00506629_cropped.jpgSTATES spending rose by 3.3 per cent last year — the lowest rise for more than 20 years.

The latest States Report and Accounts (the public accounts for 2007), released today, reveal that spending rose by less than the rate of inflation.

And Treasury Minister Terry Le Sueur believes that Jersey is well on track to fill the threatened ‘black hole’ in public revenues caused by tax reforms.

Last year, the total States income was £559 million, or £37 million more money than was spent on both public services and capital projects.

Those projects included Le Squez housing estate, the Airport runway, Grainville and Mont à l’Abbé Schools, a new prison cell block and the refurbishment of the States building.
