Airlines put up fares and cut flights

00135754_cropped.jpgAIR fares will increase and flights will be scrapped as some of the Channel Islands’ biggest airlines suffer from the increasing cost of fuel.

Aurigny, which runs 170 flights between Jersey and Guernsey per week, has announced that it has increased fares by about five per cent.

Blue Islands says it will cancel ‘two or three’ of its daily flights between Guernsey and Jersey and increase fares on longer routes. And Flybe, the Channel Islands’ biggest carrier, has refused to deny that it may be forced to cut the number of flights to and from Jersey in its autumn and winter schedule.

The announcements come as Jersey Airport increases its security costs and airlines across the world are forced to scale back operations and increase prices because of rising fuel costs.

Passengers face paying another 12.5 per cent rise in security charges at Jersey Airport from the beginning of September. It will be the second increase this year and will mean that the security charge has risen by 47.5 per cent since the beginning of January.

It is claimed that these price increases are due to the raising of the security charges, some 45% since January. Why not stop this stupid security lark.I sometimes travel over to Guernsey and have often been the sole person to be searched by five security staff. Even the most half witted cretin would realize that I am most unlikely to climb over the passengers of a Trilander to demand that the captain takes me to Cuba.I am also less likely to access the bridge of the overnight Clipper to demand that the captain takes me to Zurich.
A determined terrorist will carry out an attack no matter how how hard or soft the target. As usual some persons in more advantageous positions than us mere plebeians are making are making some serious money out of this useless and time wasting security lark.

Flybe have already cut flights in October only 2 a day on Saturdays ( one being smaller plane) and less on Sundays also less to Gatwick – why the pretence – and trying to change your plane after they have removed it – forget their Customer Service has no idea at all and plainly useless
