00568020_cropped.jpgTHE Jersey Evening Post is carrying out a £1 million project to modernise its press at Five Oaks.

The work, which will make it possible to print more colour pages of better quality, has caused some teething troubles which have resulted in the late delivery of some copies of the paper this week.

The major project has included the establishment of a new electricity supply and sub-station and work is now under way in the press room on installing new colour units and other up-to-date equipment. This will take several more weeks.

Specialist engineers from press manufacturers Goss are in the Island for what is the most significant development of the JEP’s printing capability since the paper moved to Five Oaks in 1977.

Managing director Jerry Ramsden said: ‘We apologise for the problems which have been caused by this complex and important work and hope that readers and advertisers will bear with us while we complete the task of upgrading our colour capacity. We are working hard to get back to normal production schedules as soon as possible.’
