Scotland’s Higgins defeated England’s Mark Selby 6-3 in the best of nine frames tournaments to follow in Berlin, Moscow and Warsaw before the grand final in Dusseldorf, Germany, at the end of November.

Amateurs are playing against the pros in tournament play for the first time and Jersey’s Aaron Canavan and Gary Britton took part – with Britton (pictured) producing the upset of the weekend by defeating Ireland’s former World champion Ken Doherty 4-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Britton, a former pro and English amateur, said: ‘Defeating Ken is certainly the biggest win of my career and I was thoroughly delighted.

‘To be honest neither of us played well but I took my chances when they came along. To to beat some like Ken was brilliant.
