Tennis: Island and Gibraltar in Youth Commonwealths selection dilemma
Tuesday 24th June 2008, 2:59PM BST.
PROMISING tennis players from Jersey and Guernsey have been battling their Gibraltarian compatriots on court ahead of the Commonwealth Youth Games.
But Channel Islands tennis coaches are worried it could affect the selection process for both Jersey and Gibraltar, who are yet to choose their players.
Jersey teenagers Scott Clayton, James Faudemer, Jordan Roberts James Connolly and Guernsey’s Nick Thiebeault have played a series of friendly matches with some of the territory’s best young sportsmen, who are hoping for Commonwealth Games selection.
The tournament was prompted by the Gibraltarian selection committee who claimed to be unsure of the standard they should pick for their own team, who will go to the Games in India later this year.*Picture: Nick Thiebeault and Scott Clayton
