The old committee system was more democratic than the current way

From Matthew McNulty.
THE Council of Ministers have distanced themselves from the people of Jersey and are no longer trusted by the people.
There seems to be a culture of cover-up on a large scale and no one seems to accept responsibility for the gaffes.
The arrogance of some of our ministers beggars belief, and they never have to be answerable to the people who elected them. The committee system was more democratic, as the Council of Ministers are too secretive and it is only by leaks to the press that you hear what is going on.
The Clothier Report should have been implemented in full. By cherry-picking it, the politicians ruined the whole democratic focus of the report. We now need party politics in Jersey to have a more democratic balance to the constitutional process.
Human rights are looked upon as a distraction and they only pay lip service to the whole proceedings.
We need to entice a more educated element into the States and pay the appropriate salary, otherwise we will have the same old bunch.
