Night-time noise for thousands of residents

Thursday 26th June 2008, 2:54PM BST.

00569835_cropped.jpgABOUT 3,500 residents face noisy nights for over six months when work starts on the £17 million resurfacing of the Airport runway in September.

The work, which includes strengthening the surface, will go on until the end of April next year, with the Airport closed to flights from 9 pm until 6 am each day.

The construction project will also mean late delivery of both newspapers and mail to Islanders. The daily papers are not expected to be in shops until about an hour later than normal, while Jersey Post says that mail delivery times will be about 30 minutes later.

Any flights that are delayed and cannot get to Jersey before the 9 pm cut-off point will not be allowed to land. No emergency flights will be permitted but a separate helicopter landing area has been identified for medical evacuations.
