Smith eyes podium power finish

roundbritain_cropped.jpgTEAM Jersey are back on track and ready to fight their way to the top of the class in the final few legs of the Round Britain Powerboat Race.

World champion skipper Roy Smith says the fantastic result they achieved in Tuesday’s leg four race, from Bangor to Oban, has boosted the crew’s confidence. Technical problems forced the team to start ten minutes later than the rest of the fleet, but they managed to catch up and overtake their opponents to finish in a highly respectable second place in their class, and 13th overall.

In the total standings Team Jersey now sit at eighth position in the Sports Boats and RIBs (27ft-33ft) class, yet Smith believes a podium place is not out of the question when the race finishes on Monday.

He said: ‘If you enter to win, you have to start a race, and you have to finish a race. We did have a few problems with the boat, and to be honest I was a little bit worried before the crew set off to Oban on Tuesday. But I was proved wrong – it did the job, and it seems to be getting better. So, providing it doesn’t cause us any more problems, anything is possible.’
